Refine your professional approach, build up the graduate attributes of a reflective practitioner and cover a range of topics that include child development, early years, the primary curriculum and family studies. Combine practical skills with academic rigour and work more effectively with children in a variety of contexts. Social Science HNC is an innovative course designed to teach you a range of disciplines from the social science field. International Relations focuses on interactions of states and non-state actors through the tools of diplomacy, trade, and violence. Pressing questions including climate change and migration are analysed at local and global levels.

  • Our graduates have successfully gone into diverse fields such as social work, community education, teaching, care services, the police service and public relations work.

After Year 2 you will have the option to specialise in Psychology or Sociology, or you can continue studying a mixture of both through the Applied Social Sciences route. Study up-to-date sociological theory alongside a wide range of sociological topics, with a strong emphasis on professional opportunities and employability. Issues such as environmental change, poverty, cybercrime, economic and political turmoil, inequality, the movement of people and social development require a global response founded on research. We provide the rigorous knowledge base and inspiration for new policies to address these challenges.

Many of our graduates also undertake postgraduate study, enabling them to specialise in a variety of areas including social work, teaching, management and postgraduate research. 95% of our students are in work or study six months after finishing the course . The Inclusion Centre advises and supports students who disclose a sensory or mobility impairment, chronic medical condition, mental health issue, dyslexia and other specific learning differences. Applicants are encouraged to arrange a pre-entry visit to discuss any concerns and to view the facilities.

Entry to year 1 or year 2 may be possible for students who have completed a Foundation Certificate or Foundation Undergraduate Pathway programme, from an approved UK provider, at 60% or above. For courses which require a specific subjects match, such as English or Maths, these would need to provided in addition to the Pathway Programme Certificate or result.
